What the Northern Light Teaches About Wonder

In places like Norway, the night sky sometimes comes alive with the northern lights—quiet waves of color moving across darkness, unexpected and almost unreal.
It does not happen every night. It cannot be controlled. But when it appears, it changes the way the sky is seen.
There is something important in that unpredictability.
We often expect life to be consistent, measurable, and within control. But some of its most beautiful moments arrive without planning. They are not scheduled, not guaranteed, and not always repeated.
Yet they leave a lasting impression.
Wonder does not need frequency to matter.
A single unexpected moment—a realization, an experience, a quiet joy—can stay with you far longer than many ordinary ones.
The northern light reminds us that not everything is valuable. Some things appear briefly, but deeply.
Instead of expecting every day to be extraordinary, it may be enough to remain open to such moments when they come.
Life does not always shine brightly.
But when it does, even for a while, it is worth noticing.
