The Old Dog Still Waited at the Gate

Every evening, an old dog slowly walked toward the same gate near the end of a quiet lane.
Its movements had become slower with age.
Sometimes it sat there only for a few minutes before returning. Sometimes longer.
No one knew exactly what memory kept bringing it back.
But the habit remained.
There was something deeply touching about that quiet loyalty to a place.
Animals often remember through feeling rather than explanation.
And perhaps people do too.
Certain roads, songs, voices, and evenings continue living inside us long after their original moment has passed.
Not because we consciously choose to hold them.
But because some experiences leave emotional traces that time never fully removes.
Tonight, there is something gentle to remember.
The heart often continues visiting places that once made it feel understood — even after many years have quietly gone by.
