One winter morning, firefighters arriving for duty noticed a stray cat sitting outside the station.
The next day, the cat returned.
Then again.
Before long, everyone accepted that the cat had made its decision.
The fire station was home.
The firefighters provided food, a warm corner and, eventually, a name.
In return, the cat offered something less tangible.
Companionship.
After difficult shifts and demanding emergencies, firefighters often found comfort in the animal’s calm presence.
Visitors came expecting to see fire engines and equipment.
Many left talking about the station cat.
The animal never fought fires.
Never responded to emergencies.
Yet it contributed in its own way.
Sometimes comfort is as valuable as action.
The story spread through the community, and the cat became a local favourite.
It serves as a gentle reminder that belonging is not always something we choose.
Occasionally, it chooses us.
And sometimes it arrives quietly, with whiskers, paws and a determination to stay.
