An old traveller reached a fast-flowing stream just before sunset.
After crossing safely, he stopped and began building a small wooden bridge.
A passer-by asked, “Why spend time on a bridge you will never use again?”
The traveller smiled.
“Someone younger may arrive after me in the darkness.”
The bridge was not built for the one who crossed first.
It was built for the one who would come later.
Life offers many opportunities to leave behind something useful—a kind word, a helping hand, or a path made easier for another.
The finest legacy is often the one we build for people we may never meet.
