A correction to the information published in this post: I had stated that the Sudd Wetland received South Sudan’s first UNESCO World Heritage inscription in 2026. That was incorrect.
The correct inscription is the Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape, which became South Sudan’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2026.
The Sudd is currently on UNESCO’s Tentative List, not the World Heritage List.
I regret the error and thank readers for their understanding.
