Ode to the Lost Pen

Pens have a secret talent for vanishing when we need them most. Yet, they reappear in trouser pockets or under sofa cushions, smirking like naughty children.

Today, let’s forgive the lost pen. Maybe it teaches us this: not everything missing is gone forever.

Begin your day with a fresh page—pen or no pen.

The Half-Finished Painting

In his upper room, an old man stared at a canvas he began years ago—a boat adrift on a stormy sea. For decades, he never returned to it.

This evening, he picked up a brush and painted a calm blue sky above it. The storm was over.

Maybe that’s what life is about—coming back to old stories, old scars, and finishing them differently. Tonight, revisit something you left incomplete. A book. A call. A dream. Add a calm sky above it.

The Missing Socks Mystery

@ All rights reserved by the author

Date: 13/07/2025

Somewhere in every home lives a secret society of single socks. They vanish quietly, leaving their partners mourning in drawers.

Tonight, I found yet another lonely sock staring at me accusingly. It made me laugh. Maybe life, too, is like that drawer—full of little mismatches and absences we can’t explain.

So instead of sulking over what’s missing, I paired it with another lonely sock. Odd? Maybe. But comfortable.

Perhaps happiness is just this—accepting mismatches with a grin.

The Tea That Smiled

This morning, my tea smiled at me. Not literally, of course—but there was something about that first sip. Warm, earthy, calming. A reminder that happiness often hides in simple rituals.

We keep chasing big things—awards, likes, applause—when all along, the universe hides joy in a steaming cup.

So today, take your tea (or coffee) slowly. Let it remind you: life’s sweetest moments are rarely loud.

The Chair That Rocks

There’s an old rocking chair in my veranda—its cane cracked slightly, its arms polished by decades of hands. It squeaks every time I lean back, but oh, how it knows to soothe a tired body.

This evening, I sank into it with a cup of tea. The chair took over the rest—rocking gently, lulling my thoughts. The chaos of the day melted, replaced by a soft breeze and the faint smell of rain on dust.

Maybe we all need such a chair—not always literal, but a space or habit that lets life slow down. A walk. A book. A quiet balcony.

Find yours tonight. Let it rock you gently back to yourself.

The Forgotten Alarm

You wake up to birdsong instead of your phone’s annoying beep. A rare, gentle start. No panic. No mad rush. You sit there for a minute, realizing… nothing terrible happened just because you overslept.

The world didn’t stop. The sky didn’t fall.

Maybe we’ve been too harsh on ourselves, binding every day to alarms and deadlines. Sometimes, life whispers, “Take five more minutes.” And it’s okay to listen.

Here’s to starting your day softer.

The Saree That Waited

In a quiet corner of her wardrobe sat a saree she never wore. A deep maroon silk, its golden borders still stiff from never being draped. It had been bought for “some special occasion” years ago—but no such occasion came.

One evening, with no guests, no festivals, she took it out. Draped it slowly, awkwardly. She walked to the mirror and smiled—not at the fabric, but at the woman who finally stopped waiting for life to give her a reason to feel beautiful.

Perhaps the real occasion was just… being alive.

So tonight, wear your special perfume. Use the fancy cup. Call that friend. Life’s most ordinary days often turn out to be extraordinary.

The Morning Guest

There’s always that one uninvited guest at breakfast. Not a neighbor, not a relative—just a bird who insists on inspecting your balcony.

It hops closer, tilts its head as if saying, “So… are we sharing those biscuits or not?”

You pause, biscuit in hand, and laugh. Maybe today’s gift isn’t a promotion or an award. Maybe it’s this little feathered inspector reminding you: life’s lighter when you notice small, silly joys.

So share a crumb. Or don’t. But start your day with a smile anyway.

The Great Indian Remote Mystery

@ All rights reserved by the author
Date: 07/07/2025

Every household has it. That one television remote control with magical powers. It disappears precisely when India needs two runs off the last ball or when your wife’s favourite serial reaches the dramatic revelation.

You’ve searched under the cushions. Checked the fridge (don’t ask why). Even interrogated the poor dog with suspicious eyes. Nothing. And then, hours later, it reappears—quietly resting on the coffee table as if mocking you: “What’s the panic? I never left.”

Some say it’s gremlins. I think it’s the remote’s way of demanding respect. After all, in its tiny plastic frame lives the power to silence news debates and skip endless shampoo ads.

Next time it vanishes, don’t panic. Just pour yourself tea, lean back, and let the universe work its mysterious magic. The remote always comes home.
