The Great Indian Remote Mystery

Every household has it. That one television remote control with magical powers. It disappears precisely when India needs two runs off the last ball or when your wife’s favourite serial reaches the dramatic revelation.

You’ve searched under the cushions. Checked the fridge (don’t ask why). Even interrogated the poor dog with suspicious eyes. Nothing. And then, hours later, it reappears—quietly resting on the coffee table as if mocking you: “What’s the panic? I never left.”

Some say it’s gremlins. I think it’s the remote’s way of demanding respect. After all, in its tiny plastic frame lives the power to silence news debates and skip endless shampoo ads.

Next time it vanishes, don’t panic. Just pour yourself tea, lean back, and let the universe work its mysterious magic. The remote always comes home.

Maa’s Jar of Pickles

@ All rights reserved by the author

Date: 10/07/2025

At the back of the top shelf, wrapped in old newspaper, is Maa’s jar of pickles.

Mango. Spicy. Slightly too salty.

Made with gossip and sunlight.

She used to say, “Pickle needs time. Don’t rush it.”

And maybe that’s true for everything—love, apologies, even forgiveness.

Now, when I miss her, I open the lid just to smell it.

One sniff, and I’m nine again, stealing pieces with rice.

Pickles don’t expire, you know.

Neither does love.

A Cup of Tea and an Untold Story

@ All rights reserved by the author
Date: 09/07/2025

There’s something magical about a cup of tea at the end of a long day. It’s not just the warmth of the porcelain in your palms or the aroma of leaves unfurling—it’s the silent invitation to pause.

As I sit by my window, I see a stray cat sprawled lazily on the boundary wall, the world slowing down with the fading sun. Somewhere, in a different time zone, someone might just be waking up, brewing their first coffee, stretching into a new day full of unknowns.

Isn’t life like this cup? Bitter at times, sweet at others, and always best when sipped slowly. Tonight, don’t scroll endlessly. Put your phone away. Sit with yourself. Or with someone you love. Share that untold story you’ve been keeping for months. You’ll be surprised how much lighter your soul feels.

Red Light Wisdom

@ All rights reserved by the author

Date: 09/07/2025

Stuck at a red light today?

Don’t tap the wheel or curse the clock.

Use it.

Take a deep breath. Smile. Think of someone you’re grateful for.

Pause is not punishment. It’s presence.

Even traffic gives us a chance to stop rushing through our lives.

Let stillness happen—even in gear

That One Lightbulb

There’s always that one flickering bulb at home.

You think, “I’ll fix it tomorrow.”

And weeks pass.

You learn to live with its rhythm—on-off-on, blink-blink, buzz.

It becomes a part of your background, your quiet.

I think we’re all like that bulb sometimes.

Flickering. Not broken, just… tired.

But still giving light.

Even if it’s not perfect.

And you know what? That’s okay.

You don’t have to shine steady all the time.

Even flickers count.

Morning Microfiction

He made two cups of tea every morning.

One for himself. One for memory.

She never came back.

But he never stopped.

The steam curled like her laugh once—light, rising, fading.

Some habits are love letters.

Some routines are stories left unfinished.

Sundays Smell Different

@ All rights reserved by the author

Date: 07/07/2025

Have you noticed how Sundays have their own smell?

It’s a weird mix of agarbatti, shampoo, and pressure cooker steam.

At home, it also meant old Hindi songs on the radio and Papa reading the paper too loudly.

Maa would clean things that were already clean.

We’d all move slower.

Not lazy—just softer.

Evenings came with extra cups of tea and that faint worry about Monday.

Now I live alone, but some Sundays, I recreate the whole thing—just for comfort.

Because peace isn’t always silence.

Sometimes, it’s the familiar noise you grew up with.

Take the Stairs

Choose the stairs today—not for your body, but for your mind.

In each step is presence, in each breath, awareness.

Elevators are quick.

But the climb teaches patience, rhythm, stillness between effort.

You don’t need a mountain to feel victorious.

Sometimes, even 12 steps are enough to remind you that you can rise.

The Kitchen Dance

Cooking with someone is a strange kind of intimacy.

One moves, the other follows.

You reach for salt, they pass it before you ask.

It’s clumsy, full of jokes and little burns and spilled dal.

But it’s a rhythm.

We once cooked khichdi together—me, chopping too slow, she stirring too fast.

We laughed more than we cooked.

In the end, the rice was undercooked, but the moment was perfect.

Some meals don’t feed your stomach.

They feed your bond.

If you get a chance this week—cook with someone you love.

Not for the food. For the mess.

The One-Minute Reset

Title: Quotes that Hug

@ All rights reserved by the author

Date: 10/07/2025

Some mornings need wisdom.

Some need warmth.

Here’s both:

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” — C.S. Lewis

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.” — Mother Teresa

“Breathe. It’s just a bad day, not a bad life.” — Unknown

Wrap yourself in these and step out stronger.
