The City Remembers

Cities are not just buildings.
They remember things.

The bench where you first held hands.
The tea stall that knew your name.
The streetlamp under which you promised never to leave.

You may move out.
You may grow up.
But the city keeps your footsteps.
The echo of your laughter.
The shape of your dreams.

And sometimes, when the wind hits just right, the city whispers your name back.

How I Became a Writer

(All Rights Reserved by the Author)

Date: 28th April 2025

There are moments in life when you feel the world has decided your destiny — and not in your favor.
For me, that moment came early.
In school, literature was my biggest enemy. I tried, I failed, I got scolded — again and again. No matter how many times I picked up the pen, it slipped through my fingers like water. Words — beautiful for others — seemed stubborn and foreign to me.

I buried that hurt deep inside and moved on.
Engineering became my escape, and later, my career.
But life wasn’t easy there either. I found myself posted in harsh terrains, juggling impossible projects, racing against impossible deadlines.
There was no time to think, no space to dream.
The little flame of creativity inside me flickered, almost extinguished, surviving only through the few random lines scribbled on dusty notepads.

Then came 2019 — the year everything changed.
A massive heart attack brought me to my knees, and a heart valve replacement surgery anchored me to a hospital bed, beneath a glaring ICU light that never dimmed.

Lying there, staring endlessly at the white ceiling, unable to move, unable to eat as I wished, unable even to turn sideways, the reality hit me hard.
I realized — the life I had known was gone.
Freedom would no longer be mine so easily.
I would have to rebuild everything — body, mind, spirit.

And somewhere in that emptiness, a soft voice inside me rose.
“You still have something left to do,” it said.
“You were not born to be forgotten.”
“You can still write. You can still dream.”

Every sleepless night, that voice grew louder. It reminded me of all the thrashings I took in school, all the moments I felt small and insignificant. It asked me — Are you going to let those memories define you forever?
And somewhere between the pain and the silence, I answered back — No.

When I returned home, fragile but determined, I started writing — truly writing — for the first time in my life.
The words that once betrayed me now became my companions.
Slowly, line by line, I wrote my first book: “A Sanguine Tale: Unfolding the Life of a Project Engineer.”

That little book, born out of an ICU bed’s loneliness and a tired heart’s hope, went on to win the Best Emerging Writer Award at KLC 24 and the Golden Book Award.

Today, writing is not just what I do — it is who I am.
It is the language of my survival, the music of my second life.

To everyone reading this — if you ever feel you are too late, too broken, too lost to start again —
I am here to tell you: you are not.
Dreams don’t have deadlines.
Sometimes, they are just waiting for you to find them again.

Some Doors Open Inward

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY THE AUTHOR

Date : 27/04/2025

Not every knock
needs an answer.
Not every stranger
is a threat.

Some fears
wear the face
you see in the mirror
at 2:43 AM.

But there is a door
that opens inward,
and behind it—
a soft light
that remembers
what you were
before the storm.

Step in.
You still fit there.

What the Mirror Doesn’t Show

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY THE AUTHOR

Date of Posting: Saturday, 26 April 2025

We look into mirrors and expect truth. But mirrors lie.

They don’t show the anxiety tucked behind a smile.
Or the exhaustion in someone who always looks “fine.”
They don’t reveal the nights spent thinking of a single sentence said five years ago.

They show symmetry. Skin. Reflection.
But not the inner war.

So don’t trust mirrors more than people.
And don’t judge someone by the face they wear today.

We all carry ghosts that don’t show up in glass.

The Red Saree

She waited at the station every evening, wearing the same red saree.
Thirty years had passed since he’d promised to return.
The villagers called her mad, but she smiled through their whispers.
Each dusk, she fixed her hair and held a single marigold.
Trains came and went, none bringing him back.
One winter evening, a stranger approached with his eyes.
He held out a diary—weathered, like her hope.
“My father wrote about you on every page,” he said softly.
She held the diary to her chest, tears washing time.
Love had finally returned, not in flesh, but in words.

I Folded The Morning

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED NY THE AUTHOR

25/04/2025

I folded the morning
into the back pocket
of yesterday.

The birds forgot to sing today—
or maybe I forgot
how to hear them.

Even my coffee
tasted like memory.
And the sugar
didn’t help.

They say grief
doesn’t knock
after its first visit.
But it has a key now—
and uses it
whenever the sun is too bright.

Title: Swing of Sunshine

Gentle breeze in lazy swing,
Sunlit laughter softly rings,
Time dissolves on golden wings.

Title: Lemonade Whispers

Cold glass hugs sunlit days,
Sugar songs in citrus haze,
Carefree sips chase worries away.

Title: Hammock Afternoon

Soft fabric cradles dreams,
Leafy lullabies and beams,
Mind drifts where nothing seems.

The Kindness of Strangers

ALL RIGHT RESERVED BY THE AUTHOR

DATE: 24/04/2026

It was a woman on the bus who first taught me kindness.
I was crying—headphones on, world off. She didn’t ask questions. She just handed me a piece of chocolate.

Years later, I did the same for a boy outside a hospital.
He took it without looking at me.
But I know he’ll remember. Not my face. But the gesture.

Strangers carry pieces of us.
They step in when friends fail, when family falters.
They appear for one moment and then disappear.
But they restore faith—quietly, without asking for thanks.

So be kind. You never know who’s listening to sad songs on a crowded bus.

Arun woke up to the rhythm of rain tapping on the window—soft, playful, like nature’s alarm clock.

He opened the curtains. The world was washed clean—trees gleamed, the road smiled, and birds danced mid-drizzle.

In a moment of rebellion, he brewed chai, played an old RD Burman tune, and stood at the balcony sipping joy.

The office could wait five minutes. The world was performing. And he, for once, was its audience.

Smiling, he whispered, “This… is success.”
