Someone in our house once announced,
“Has anyone seen my phone?”
Three people immediately started looking.
One checked the sofa.
Another looked in the bedroom.
Someone even checked the refrigerator.
“Why would it be in the refrigerator?” I asked.
“Just checking.”
Five minutes later, the phone was found.
Where?
In the owner’s hand.
There was silence.
Then someone said,
“Good. At least we know it wasn’t lost.”
That was the end of the search.
But not the laughter.
Families are wonderful that way.
We may lose our keys, glasses, phones and sometimes our patience.
But somehow, there is always somebody nearby ready to laugh with us.
And perhaps that is what makes a house feel like home.
Not that everything is always in its proper place.
But that somebody is usually there to help you look.
