“Nothing will work unless you do.”
— Maya Angelou
It is a simple sentence, almost too simple.
Yet there is something uncomfortable about its truth.
We can make plans.
We can wait for the right opportunity.
We can tell ourselves that one day things will change.
But eventually, somebody has to take the first step.
The first page has to be written.
The telephone call has to be made.
The apology has to be offered.
The journey has to begin.
Perhaps we sometimes make life unnecessarily complicated because action is more frightening than imagination.
Thinking about doing something is comfortable.
Doing it is different.
It can fail.
It can surprise us.
It can even change the direction of our lives.
But nothing moves until we move.
Sometimes the hardest part of a journey is not the distance.
It is simply deciding to begin.
