In southern Siberia lies Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest and one of its oldest freshwater lakes. Formed millions of years ago, it contains nearly one-fifth of the planet’s unfrozen fresh water and supports an extraordinary variety of plants and animals found nowhere else.

Lake Baikal reminds us that some of Earth’s greatest treasures are those shaped patiently by nature over countless generations.
