“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
— Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter

The thought is simple, but it carries a quiet strength.

We often imagine that making a difference requires something extraordinary.

It may not.

A kind word to someone having a difficult day.
A patient answer when we could have been impatient.
A little encouragement when someone has begun to doubt themselves.

None of these acts may make headlines.

Yet they can change the colour of somebody’s day.

We may never know what another person is carrying silently.

So perhaps the smallest kindness is sometimes more valuable than we realise.

We cannot clear every cloud.

But, now and then, we can be the rainbow that appears beneath one.
